38 family members, 2 dogs, 1 almost-roadkill dog, 2020km, 3 states, 205.1L from 5 stops, $298.02, 25h35m moving, 6h48m stationary, average speed 79kph, 6L of coolant, 1 giant koala, 1 hanging rock, 2 pub meals, 3 christmas feeds, 2 citylink passes, 3 hook turns, 2 old schools, 0 old neighbours, 5 presents that were chocolate boxes and 2.5 bottles of Wild Turkey!
Yep, christmas was a good one. Mt Barker to Bendigo to Dandenong to Mt Barker.
Also, changed the GPS into MPH so we could do 88mph (142kph)while passing a few trucks in a row. Didnt time travel. Next few trucks we dropped back to third for a giddy up, topped 100mph (162kph) and STILL didnt time travel! Damn.
But in all seriousness, we passed EVERYTHING from Keith to Tailem Bend (not even speeding except for passing trucks) except this pathetic Hyundai Getz. It turned on from a side road before whatever town is 2nd before Tailem, got passed instantly by me, got to the town and slowed to 80 then 60 but the Getz just didnt slow down and tailgated me the whole way through. I brake checked the guy and he didnt back off! Back to the 110 zone, 2nd gear all the way and the Getz was dust, NEXT TOWN! 80, 60, Getz catches up again. He’s starting to piss me off because of how close he is. Anyway i give up on the big take off because he’ll just catch up at the next town anyway. I figured that i wasnt in a rush and he can just pass me and then i dotn have to worry about it anymore. but he doesnt. He seriously had about 6km of dead straight road with no oncomming cars the whole time and he just sat there 1m behind me. Get to tailem where it’s a double lane and he struggles past finally. So he cops highbeam for the next whatever km haha
I hate people who just cant drive. If you want to pass then DONT JUST SIT THERE LIKE A WANK. Grow some fucking balls and cross the dotted line. wait, scratch that. You dont even need balls! YOU JUST NEED FUCKING EYES TO SEE IF THERE IS ONCOMING TRAFFIC OR NOT!!! GGRRRAHAHHJAJAHHASFasdfafAfasfJ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’d love to do a big post but i’ll just summarise with dot points.
22nd have x-mas dinner with my family
leave friday 23rd for my GF’s family. Have packed spare of EVERY FLUID except fuel, 2 shifting spanners, 2 screwdrivers and a ratchet with common bits. Also have jump leads and a tow cable.
Car is very hot but not over heating. Stop at Bordertown and remove the grill a’la dori king. No intercooler though. The unrestricted airflow keeps the car running great the rest of the trip.
Get to bendigo 3pm 23rd.
24th we have dinner/drinks at Aunty Jenny’s place
25th we have x-mas morning, Lunch at Aunty Jenny’s and Dinner at Aunty Manda’s
26th we go to Lake Eppalock and pub dinner
27th we go to Echuca and NSW for some winery with the grandparents
28th we drive from bendigo to dandenong (melbourne)
along the way we stop at Hanging Rock, my old schools, my old houses, nostalgia cruise. (i was born in adelaide, lived in melbourne, now back in adelaide)
Arrive at my Granny’s house to surprise her. I’ve told her the previous week that we dont have time and cant come. i lied. The rest of my extended family is there. Buig surprise for everyone except Aunty Mary who i rang to make sure we went to the right house and have big dinner and wild turkey.
29th we leave Dandenong at 12noon (11.30 adelaide time), top up with fuel, and get on the monash fwy at the very very end and start driving.
Stops at Western Ring Road maccas, Beaufort Junk Shop, Nihll loo, Bordertown for a spotted cheap fuel fill up (easily had 200km left in the tank), Keith for a proper pub dinner, and home at 10.30 adelaide time. :)
Anyway, it was a great trip :) I love driving holidays!
